Settling In
We understand how hard it can be for both children and parents/carers to start nursery, therefore offer a generous settling in process to ease the transition. On our first session we welcome you to come along and complete paperwork with a member of staff who could potentially be your child’s Key Person. Your key person will be your child’s first port of call and will aim to develop a strong bond with them. However, if your child feels a stronger bond with another staff member, we will review the key person. You will be offered a second visit which you can leave your child so they gain an understanding of what nursery is like without parent there and also to continue to form a strong bond with their key person. If you feel you would like more visits then we will support you to feel comfortable in leaving your child.
Our Planning
The Little Lotus Nursery uses an ‘In the Moment Planning System’ we feel this allows the setting to be more child-led and allows the children to be given a choice and a more enabling environment and allows the children to explore and investigate through their play. By carrying out this form of planning we feel our setting allows all children to have a voice, be an individual and express/ develop their interests at their own speed.
Key persons will use the voice of the parents and ask for a short form to be completed so they can help focus on children’s learning and know what parents want them to learn.
We believe children will learn better by taking a lead on their own learning and our practitioners extend their learning by using teachable moments.
This gives a more enabling environment and allows the children to explore and investigate through their play. By carrying out this form of planning we feel our setting allows all children to have a voice, be an individual and express/ develop their interests at their own speed.
We also have our own Little Lotus Library which we encourage parents and children to take a book home to read together.
